KC is not just BBQ

A dear friend in Texas recently sent me an article from the March/April 2010 Texas Journey Magazine. “Kansas City’s culinary scene extends way beyond barbeque”, reads the tag-line. This is not news to any local restaurant fan - we have known this for a long time. The word must finally be getting out. The author writes that Kansas City has a “cosmopolitan feel” and “lately, this Paris of the Plains has earned a delectable reputation as a hub of haute cuisine - a place where creative chefs whip up distinctive dishes using fresh, local and often surprising ingredients.”  Isn’t that the truth!

Colby Garrelts of bluestem, one of our local star chefs and 3-time James Beard Nominees, is featured prominently in the piece. Also named is La Bodega, as one of the not-to-miss, top notch tapas spots.

Many first-time visitors to Kansas City are often surprised and amazed at the beauty of the city and the variety of great restaurants and entertainment options. I have heard more than once that “Kansas City is a hidden jewell”, the “Best kept secret”.  I totally agree. But it looks like our gem is not such a secret anymore.

Happy Dining!
